Description
Zhejiang, circa 1880
This old wooden container is made from beech wood, the stips rounded and secured together with the help of two metal bands. It was was meant to hold cooked rice, with a handle for carrying the food out to villagers working in the fields. This one is slightly unusual in that it has a smaller, removable circular lid set inside the larger one, allowing the rice to be easily spooned out from inside.
