Description
Gansu, circa 1880
In Shanxi and the western part of Gansu province, walnut was a favoured wood for carpentry due to its superior features compared to the more abundant elm. Its open grain and golden brown tone were highly desirable, making it the perfect choice for this elegant storage cabinet that beautifully showcases the wood's qualities thanks to a deep, rich stain.
Expertly crafted in Gansu province, the cabinet features sturdy frames, thick panels, and a chunky overhanging top. Its aged appearance, including the worn top surface, adds to its charm. The two doors are adorned with simple circular hardware, likely a replacement for the original. The cabinet also includes two lower drawers and a single removable shelf, providing ample storage space.
