These unusual flowers are part of the Osteospermum family, and derive their name from their distinctive crimped or spooned petals. They originate from southern areas of Africa but can be grown in pots in more northern climes.
They symbolise silence and purity.
This tiny flower is just 25mm wide. My fascination when photographing flowers is observing the amazing detail within natures design. The closer you get, the more you see. This image is focus-stacked using 130 shots at slightly different focal points in order to create sufficient depth of field from front to back. This is the only way to achieve this degree of deep focus when working with a macro lens.
Archival pigment print on smooth matt Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 gsm heavyweight art paper.
