Description
This lovely lidded chest dates from the early 20th century, originating from Rajvari in northern India. It was produced as a dowry chest and is in a style known as pithara in India. It would once have been deeper, but has been reduced in size to be more suitable as a console, with plenty of storage space inside for bedding or other items. The panelled front is in the old green and pink finish, with the top lid and interior in more natural dark wood. The lid is fitted with chains at each side to keep it vertical when open. Ideal as an unusual sideboard or console and to bring a bright colour accent to an interior.
