There are backpacks and then are Portamus backpacks. And the Rockness Backpack in Colemans Yellow is the pinnacle of classic backpack design. Each and every Rockness backpack is hand made by one person, Ben. These backpacks are the culmination of over 20 years designing bags and accessories. Every part of the Rockness backpack is meticulously designed and lovingly put together. With one ambition; to create a beautiful, durable and classic backpack whilst they are made in small batches to preserve the essence of handcrafted. The large Rockness backpack in Colemans Yellow comes with a powder coated metal frame which helps to not only protect your spine whilst hiking but also stop annoying bugles 'barrel' into your back. It also comes with two side pockets. A large front pocket. And a zipped internal leather pocket to keep items safe.
Portamus make kit that is made to be used. Each large backpack isn't classed as 'performance wear', which often use chemical coated materials. And quite frankly are over the top for rambling vale and valley. But tried and trusted materials and craftsmanship construction that is fit for purpose and will last.
Ben also believes that British materials are also key to creating Portamus backpacks. The yellow 16 oz waxed cotton comes from British Millerian, who have been honing the craft of waxed cotton since 1880 years in Rochdale. The lining is the finest Irish linen. The drawstrings are woven on antique looms in Lancashire. There are two parts of these beautiful backpacks that are sourced from outside of the UK. The leather is traditionally tanned by a small family tannery in Florence. And the powder coated metalwork is machined in Asia to Ben's own exacting specifications.
