Description

Dahlias are enjoying a much deserved return to popularity, they are great plants for dry and sunny spots in your garden, as drought-tolerant plants they’ll cope with hot, dry weather, blooming throughout the summer. They are invaluable for beds and borders, in patio pots or as cut flowers.

Flowering period: July - October, Planting period: May - June
Plant in a sunny spot. Dig soil improver and bonemeal into the planting hole before planting. In heavy clay soils add horticultural grit to the bottom of the planting hole. Do not attempt to plant these bulbs if the ground is frozen or during freezing conditions. Remove faded flowers to prolong flowering. Water well during dry spells. When foliage has died back, usually after the first frost, cut stems back to 5cm above soil level. Not winter hardy. To over-winter, dig up the tubers and store them in a cool, dry and frost-free place. Replant in the same way next year.
