About
I created Maison Elhoria in 2017 following lots of interest for my Basque products at the school fair, which opened my eyes to the potential for beautiful and traditional Basque homewares in the UK.
Through Maison Elhoria, I offer authentic, traditional Basque inspired artisan woven textile products, manufactured in the north of England. I applied the ethos of the Basque region to my design and manufacturing process here in the UK, with a real focus on tradition, quality, colour and a pride in local resources.
Mighty oaks from small acorns grow - from selling my own recipe pork Pȃtė de Campagne at the school Christmas fair, to distributing a collection of Basque items across the UK, Maison Elhoria has grown and evolved substantially over the past years. I moved away from importing cloth and small numbers of traditional textile kitchen accessories from my home Basque village and began working with one of England’s last remaining traditional mills and manufacturers in Lancashire and Yorkshire, giving my French-inspired products an solid British foundation.
The Basque Country has seven provinces, three in France and four in Spain. It is a beautiful region of hills, mountains and sea, set between the south west of France and the north west of Spain. It is a very traditional area, where different generations still live under the same roof and products are created with passion and integrity, I’m proud of my Basque roots and knew that these traditional methods of weaving, based on craftsmanship and manufacturing locally, could all be applied here in the highly skilled traditional textile manufacturing part of the UK.
My product's trademark focusses on being British made with a distinctive Basque French style: The use of natural high quality organic and recycled yarns as well as the best of Britain’s long lasting textile expertise make Maison Elhoria a truly sustainable brand, focussed on being part in preserving our environmental and economic future.

Sweep the Autumn chill with perpetual warming colours
Should changing season rhyme with new products collections?
Why does Maison Elhoria 's fabric not change each season?
Our designs ignore fashion
We do not waste a square inch of fabric
We are a micro UK company with limited ressources
All our work aims towards a sustainable future: 'slow fashion' and short circuit economy is at the heart of every decision
Hi, I am Sophie; I started Maison Elhoria with what I knew and loved, a French Basque way of thinking colours, stripes and a very down to earth way of naturally revolving around quality products and recycling. I enjoy daily use of my great and gran mothers tea towels, home linens, and aim for my customers to keep our products as long as possible, and why not maybe pass them on to the next generation?

Time to be Christmas savvy
A few tips about gifting textile products with discernment
- Gift quality: lasts longer, reduces waste and always makes a better impression
- Gift REALLY sustainable:
- support you local/ national economy and workforce;
- work out where the products components actually come from/ are made? we use GOTS certified organic and recylced cotton yarns, Same for the yarns's dye. Watch for Printed in the UK label...Sustainably printed? on what type of fabric, from where?...
- Laterally think your gifts: Yes! a long Aga mitt can be used as a stocking, but also for the BBQ season; a tea towel is also a great hand towel, keeps hard cheese in perfect condition when wrapping it at the bottom of the fridge, and can wrapp presents; a napkin make a perfect cracker wrap ...

Maison Elhoria revolves around a natural sustainable way of thinking and making, that used to be before the word 'sustainable' existed and that should be now.
