About:
Tim is an award-winning fine art and advertising photographer who runs a busy studio in central London. He has worked with many global brands over the years but has always combined these commissions with developing his own personal creative practice. This is work that looks most at home in a frame on a wall.
His photography is inspired by a fascination for small details that may otherwise remain unnoticed. A captured moment, frozen in time, allows us to observe the world in suspension and will sometimes reveal a graphic beauty that might otherwise flash by in the blink of an eye to be gone forever.
Having worked for many years with meticulous advertising clients Tim is a perfectionist, obsessed with quality which he applies to every stage of his creative practice. From the technical skills required both behind the camera and during his post-production processing, to the creation of his beautiful limited-edition fine art prints.
However, he believes that although craft and technique should not be underestimated, it is a mysterious neural connection between the eye and the brain that makes great images, and technique should remain safely behind the scenes. Nowhere does this connection matter more than when an image is framed on a wall, where it will be enjoyed for many years to come.
International Photography Awards (IPA) winner 2022 and 2023, and Fine Art Photography Awards (FAPA) 2024.
Tim recently won first place in the Nature/Flowers category in the prestigious Fine Art Photography Awards 2024, and the International Photography Awards 2023 for his macro Flower Portraits series. These images use a focus stacking technique to enhance clarity and definition at large print sizes. This is achieved by merging many shots at slightly different focal increments which creates a deep-focus effect.
Tim says of his Flower Portraits series: “The closer you get, the more you see. And the more abstract an image becomes. The deep focus close-up effect gives us a hyper-realistic level of detail, and allows us to make heroes of small things and appreciate them in a new way. These bold and colourful images evoke a uniquely subjective response in the viewer, at an emotional level that appeals to both heart and mind."
He also won first place in the Fine Art/ Abstract category in the International Photography Awards 2022 for his Botanical Opticals project based on his recent stills and motion work with flowers.
Tim says of his Botanical Opticals series: “The mandala patterns promote a sense of relaxation and wellbeing. They are both absorbing and visually stimulating and encourage viewers to focus on something beautiful and hypnotic that is inspired by the natural world. The mandala is a symbol used in Buddhism and Hinduism to represent the universe. It was also the famous psychoanalyst Carl Jung’s chosen archetype for the whole self. An archetype in the deeper layer of unconscious Jung called the ‘Collective Unconscious’. A universal part of our unconscious that we all share. They are beautiful symbols to meditate with and focus on, and visually vibrate with a calm, balanced energy."
