Heritage colours are in, according to new research from eco paint brand Thorndown.
Analysis of sales of their 2.5-litre tins of exterior wood and interior wall paint show classic shades dominated in 2024.
Wood paint sales were topped by Old Sage Green, an elegant silvery grey green colour that has an ageless feel, whereas Whey White - a buttery cream hue – was the best-selling wall paint.
Heritage tones, those inspired by period properties and landmarks, are typically more subdued than modern colour palettes. Earthy greens, brooding blues and warm greys are among Thorndown’s best-sellers.
Caroline Thornborough, Design Director of Thorndown, said: “The classic, timeless feel of heritage tones offers a sense of stability. As we continue to navigate through turbulent times, these tones bring comfort.”
The top four best-selling wall paint shades were among the top 20 best-selling wood paint shades, with a further two colours also making both lists.
Caroline said: “It’s really interesting to see so much correlation between our wood and wall paint best-sellers.
“Homeowners are increasingly seeing their gardens, patios and balconies as an extension of their living space so it’s no surprise to see their interior decor influencing their design decisions in the garden too.”
Thorndown's technically-excellent, wood and wall paint is available now, priced at £22 for 750ml.
