When it comes to bathroom design, people tend to focus on the tiles, fixtures, and vanities, with one of the most dramatic parts of the design left in the background: the tub. While a classic white tub is an ageless selection, more and more homeowners and designers alike are seeking to add the luxury of the design by upholstering baths in a fabric finish. This cutting-edge design gives a sophisticated and distinctive feel, turning a boring bathroom into an oasis.

Why Fabric-Upholstered Baths?

Fabric upholstering is a stunning way of individualising your bathtub, allowing you to create a centrepiece that is uniquely you. Here's why it's gaining such popularity:

·  Bespoke Elegance: Unlike traditional finishes, fabric upholstering offers a unique texture and depth that adds a sophisticated charm to any room.

·  Limitless Design Opportunities: Since a vast variety of textiles can be used—velvet, linen, real leather, or even embroidered fabric—you can make your bathtub fit right into your décor with ease.

· Comfort and Cosiness: Fabric-topped tubs bring in the warmth and softness of fabrics in contrast to cold bathroom surfaces, giving the space a sense of comfort and opulence.

·  Luxury Status: There's nothing more luxurious than an intricately upholstered bath, bringing to mind top-shelf boutique hotels and spa resorts.

How is the Fabric Applied?

Applying fabric to a bathtub is a combination of expert craftsmanship and high-quality materials to ensure it lasts long. Here's a general overview of how it is applied:

1. Selecting the Best Fabric: When selecting fabric for a bathroom environment, we go through a careful testing process to ensure suitability. Customers provide an A4 sample, which we assess for compatibility with our adhesive and water-resistant coating, ensuring it does not mark or stain through. We also check the fabric’s stretch to determine its stability.

2.  Preparation of the Tub Surface: The exterior of the bath is sanded and primed to give the best surface for adhesion.

3. Adhesive & Sealing: A specialised adhesive is used to secure the fabric in place, and then a sealing coat is put on to repel stains and moisture.

Practical Considerations

While the fabric-covered baths are indulgent, they must be properly maintained to keep them pristine. Wiping with water (no soap or detergent) from time to time to prevent mildew and dust.  Depending upon usage, Reapplying the waterproof treatment every 3 – 5 years will protect the fabric.

Making a Statement with Your Bath

Whether you’re aiming for a vintage, Art Deco, or modern aesthetic, a fabric-covered bath can be the defining feature of your bathroom. Imagine a clawfoot tub upholstered in deep emerald velvet for a regal look, or a freestanding bath clad in woven linen for a rustic charm. The possibilities are endless.
