Get Your Home Ready for Summer

Adam Brown, Director at The Painted Furniture Company shares his expert advice and tips for introducing a Summery feeling into our homes, ready for the warmer months ahead.

Store Away Winter Bedding

"As the warmer weather arrives, take pleasure in stowing away thick wool throws and winter duvets. Take the opportunity to store away winter coats and clothing too, making daily outfit selection trouble-free as your wardrobe will be easier to use. Blanket chests and beds with underbed storage are perfect for storing away these seasonal items and can even add a touch of Summer freshness by having them painted in lovely coastal colours," advises Adam.

Add some Coastal Charm

"Coastal-inspired décor is a great way the bring the laid-back ambiance of your favourite Summer holidays into your home, allowing you to relish those blissful memories all year round. Painted furniture is a great way to achieve a relaxed coastal look, especially if you’d rather avoid the obvious nautical motifs. By opting for furniture with a soft blue tone, you can emulate the calming hues of the ocean, instantly infusing your space with a relaxing coastal atmosphere," says Adam

He continues, "The allure of coastal living lies in its refreshing colour palette, and incorporating soft blue shades into your furniture choices can instantly transport you to the beach. Whether it's a dresser, a sideboard, or a chest of drawers, gentle blue tones on these pieces will bring a sense of calm and serenity reminiscent of a coastal retreat."

"To further enhance the nautical look, consider opting for furniture with a natural wood top. The combination of the soft blue paint and the warmth of natural wood creates a beautiful contrast. The natural wood adds an organic element to the overall aesthetic, while also grounding the space and providing a sense of authenticity," comments Adam.

"Natural jute rugs, woven baskets, and accessories such as driftwood and shells, will add the finishing touches to your coastal-themed space. Soft, breezy curtains in light fabrics like linen or sheer materials can also enhance the coastal ambiance and allow natural light to filter through into your home," advises Adam.

Introduce Vibrant Coral Hues

"Peachy pinks and coral tones are undeniably standout colour choices as we head into Summer. These vibrant hues capture the essence of vitality and optimism, infusing a sense of warmth and playfulness into our lives. The soft, peachy pinks bring a touch of elegance and gentleness, while the lively coral tones radiate energy and creativity," comments Adam.

Bring a Pop of Cheerful Yellow

"Yellow is generally thought of as happy and uplifting and so is a lovely colour to include in the home. Evoking thoughts of sunshine and laughter, it is thought to make people feel hopeful and optimistic," advises Adam. He continues, "just remember to be careful of using too much yellow in a bedroom as it is also thought to be a stimulating colour – not something you need when trying to switch your brain off for sleeping. Instead of going for a full on bright yellow paint scheme, try adding in smaller pops of yellow, such as with bedside tables or artwork."
