NEW ‘WHITTLE’ COLLECTION

“For us at Fermoie, drawing and painting are not just artistic disciplines and techniques, but an intrinsic aesthetic attitude towards light and colour. We approach every new Fermoie fabric collection as a piece of art: unique in its conception, design and execution, with its own narrative and inviting exploration and interpretation. Our fabrics are designed and produced with natural pigments applied in successive layers to create an interplay of light and texture. These new collections perfectly exemplify and demonstrate our painterly instincts and philosophy.” Tom Helme, co-founder, Fermoie.

WHITTLE

When in ancient times a wood carver repeatedly chipped the surface, he was said to be ‘whittling’. It’s these unusual ‘evenly uneven’ shapes that give our new Whittle fabric collection its name.

Whittle’s irregular stripes and unstudied geometric shapes recall the subtle, intricate interplay of angles, planes and notches in hand-carved wood, appearing to ripple over the surface of the fabric as the light falls upon it. Like every Fermoie design the entire repeat is drawn by hand, with the original broken lines of pencil on paper still evident in the finished pattern.

The design makes full use of the 100% linen base cloth to add depth and texture to the 16 colourways, which include two-colour and colour-plus-tone combinations.

WHITTLE LAMPSHADES

For the first time, Fermoie presents Round and Oval Lampshades alongside a new fabric collection. The team instinctively felt that Whittle’s painterly design with its flowing stripes would work beautifully when softly illuminated from within. Like all Fermoie Lampshades, the new Whittle shades are entirely handmade in-house in our own accessories workshop, using 100% linen sheer fabric. Available in 16 sizes from 4.5 to 24 inches (11-61cm), they’re offered in five colourways.

WHITTLE CUSHIONS

Customers will be able to order Square and Oblong Cushions in the new Whittle design from launch, too. Offered and small and large sizes, they are created, designed, printed and handmade by our skilled team in our studio and accessories workshop inWiltshire, England.

The new Fermoie Whittle and revisited Carskiey collections will be available to order from 4th February 2025 at www.fermoie.com and can also be viewed and ordered at the company’s showroom in Pimlico, London, and through retail partners worldwide.
