Interest in en suite bathrooms is soaring, according to new data from bathroom specialists Roper Rhodes.
Using data from Pinterest, Roper Rhodes found searches for the term ‘tiny ensuite ideas’ have increased 30% over the last month.
And for those considering updating a tired scheme, or even installing their first en suite, maximising space and functionality is key while considering the look and feel of the adjoining bedroom.
Zoe Jones, Senior Creative Producer at Roper Rhodes, said: “Creating the perfect en suite can be a real design challenge. Not only does the limited space have to incorporate all the practical elements of a bathroom, but it needs to complement the décor of the bedroom too.”
Here Zoe shares her top three tips for getting the most out of the tiniest en suites:
Maximise floor space
Vertical fixtures and wall-mounted utilities are key in small spaces.
Zoe said: “To make best use of the space you have, incorporate vertical storage and fixtures to maximise floor space. Wall-mounted sinks, toilets and shelving units can help make a smaller space more functional. Clever storage will ensure the space feels uncluttered and calming.”
Dated doors?
Traditional swinging doors can encroach on precious floor space. A sliding door will not only give the en suite a sleek feel but will free up space too.
Zoe said: “When designing an en suite it is important to consider every element to ensure you’re getting the most out of your space. Don’t be afraid to throw out the traditional rule book and go bold!”
Light fantastic
Clever use of lighting and mirror placement will make even the pokiest en suite feel (somewhat) palatial.
Zoe said: “Prioritise good lighting and light-coloured tiles and paint to give an airy and open feel. Don’t forget to use mirrors to reflect light to create the illusion of a larger space.”
