Last year's significant trend of bows and ribbons with a feminine allure appears to continue this Christmas. Whether oversized or petite, bows add immediate impact with their striking simplicity and effectiveness. Textural bows in materials like sequins and velvet are particularly popular this year.

For a graceful and sophisticated approach, consider replacing the traditional star or angel atop your tree with an oversized bow. Alternatively, you can tie bows onto tree branches, use them to create festive bunting, or employ smaller versions to adorn napkins and decorate taper candles. Here I’ve used paper ribbon and adorned the pre-loved candelabra with paper ribbon.

Paper decorations are high on the agenda this year. Up the ante with pleated and folded sculptural designs, and garlands that feature looped or draping chains. Mini paper trees remain essential for sideboard and table styling, or hanging from doorknobs.

As one of this year's signature decorating styles, paper really can do it all (and it's recyclable, too).
