Retro wallpapers are big news, according to Beautiful Walls

Homeowners are looking to the past for décor inspiration, according to new research from family-run wallpaper retailer Beautiful Walls.

Using data from Pinterest, Beautiful Walls have found searches for the terms ‘vintage décor’, ‘vintage home décor’ and ‘vintage room décor’ have all increased over the last month.

Tim Dixon, Managing Director of Beautiful Walls, said: “Vintage wallpaper is making a bold comeback.

"This nostalgic trend infuses homes with character and charm, inspiring a fresh approach to decorating. By blending old-world aesthetics with contemporary furnishings, designers are creating spaces that are both timeless and utterly modern."

Here Tim, and Beautiful Walls’ Head of Creative Design, Hannah Swift, pick out their top four vintage wallpaper trends and explains why they work in modern homes.

Damask Patterns

Classic damask designs with intricate floral motifs evoke a sense of old-world elegance. They are perfect for adding a touch of vintage charm.

Tim said: “The first wallpapers were believed to be a damask, so you don’t get much more vintage than that. They offer a timeless backdrop wherever they are used but I love seeing them in ornate dining rooms. They are the perfect accompaniment to a lovely dinner.”

Floral Prints

Large-scale, vintage-inspired floral patterns bring a nostalgic and romantic vibe to any room.

Hannah said: “Floral wallpapers are an evergreen but opting for large-scale designs will really lean into the vintage décor feel.”

Paisley Prints

Timeless paisley designs add a traditional yet stylish touch, ideal for vintage-inspired spaces.

Hannah said: “Paisley has a really rich heritage and its origins can be traced back to ancient Persia but it gets its name from the town in Glasgow where these distinctive teardrop designs were printed onto Jacquard looms.

“A Paisley wallpaper will not only channel vintage charm but bring a touch of eastern design into the home.”

Art Deco Geometrics

Geometric patterns reminiscent of the 1920s Art Deco era blend vintage style with modern flair for a bold dose of timeless style.

Tim added: “Art Deco wallpaper is the epitome of timeless elegance. Its geometric patterns and luxurious metallic accents infuse any space with a captivating vintage charm.”
