It hasn’t exactly been a scorching summer so far, but if you’ve managed to refrain from turning your heating back on, now is the perfect time to jazz up your fireplace area with some super-stylish tiles. On our latest blog, we offer expert advice on how to choose your materials, highlight the latest tile styles available, explain how size, shape and pattern can impact the results you achieve – and even suggest some outdoor firepit patio designs. We also showcase interior design student Charlotte’s fireplace renovation in her home, featuring our Memphis Porcelain Coral tiles.
Our director Richard Skeoch explains: “New tiles are a fabulous way to transform your fireplace surround and create a stand-out focal point in your living room. They can be used on the chimney breast, in the alcove, around the grate, and in the hearth. But first and foremost, you’ll need to take into account some practical considerations. If your fireplace is functional, you must make sure that the tiles you choose can withstand the high temperatures your fireplace can reach.”
Richard’s top tips for choosing the best fireplace tiles include:
· Choose your material wisely. Fireplace tiles need to be durable and heat-resistant. They also need to be easy to clean! Porcelain and ceramic tiles are popular picks, in addition to natural stones such as marble and granite.
· Evaluate your room’s style. Is the interiors setting modern or traditional? That’s not to say you can’t mix and match – a subtle clash of styles can look fantastic. But bear in mind you don’t want the finished effect to be jarring, or to look completely out of place.
· Assess size and shape. It sounds obvious, but the size and shape of your fireplace should also guide your fireplace tile selection. Consider which areas you will actually be tiling – there’s a big difference between a wall-to-chimney ceiling breast and a compact hearth surround.
· Pick the right pattern. Fireplace tiles don’t have to be plain. Patterns work well in both modern and traditional settings, adding contrast and visual interest.
