The countdown officially begins...Go Your Own Wayfair this Christmas

'Tis the season to...decorate! December is upon us and if you're still in need of some festive decorating inspiration, then look no further!

Online home furnishings retailer, Wayfair, has teamed up with leading UK interiors and lifestyle influencers - and founders of #MyHouseThisMonth - on their 'Go Your Own Wayfair this Christmas' campaign.

Each creating their perfect festive look, here Amy (@LittleHouseinLondon) and Lucy (@__itslucy__), share more about their chosen schemes, festive styling tips on a budget and what they are most excited about this Christmas.

Can you explain about the festive look/theme you have chosen and why?

Amy: "We've just completed a renovation of the lower level of our house, where we've established a consistent colour palette of soft pinks, blues, and deep greens. To maintain this cohesive aesthetic, I've extended these colours to our festive decorations this year. I wanted to enhance this theme by choosing items that reflect my love for nature. My aim was to craft a space that radiates enchantment and create a magical ambiance for the whole family."

Lucy: "I've chosen to throw it back to the good old days & opted for Kitsch Nostalgic charm. Think Hallmark Christmas films. Naturally, I was drawn to traditional Christmas reds with Santa’s, teddy bears, gingerbread men and toy soldiers but have also included baubles in pastel shades of my children’s favourite colours – pink & blue. This adds a touch of whimsical kitsch and gives nod to my love of pastels & all that’s pretty."

What advice would you give to someone who is unsure how to embrace their space for the festive season and a good place to start?

Amy: "You don't have to stick to the traditional red and green colour scheme for Christmas decorations. Consider your favourite colours and think about incorporating your family's hobbies or matching the decorations with the room's colour scheme. Don't be afraid to get creative and think outside the (gift) box!"

Lucy: "When it comes to styling, choose a focal point and then build on this. For example, a statement tree, a mantlepiece or a dressed window. Sometimes less can be more. If you’re a maximalist like me, remember that a Christmas collection is built over time collecting things you love along the way but if you are starting out in your new home, Wayfair has you covered with an amazing array of great quality Trees and Garlands to suit all budgets. I always say taste is subjective and styling is such a personal thing. For me it’s about the idea of Dopamine Decor & following your heart, surrounding yourself with things you love."

What are you most excited about for the Christmas season this year?

Amy: "Having my entire little family gathered in our cosy home during the "Chrimbo Limbo" stage is my absolute favourite. It's a moment to unwind, watch films, play games, reflect on the year, and genuinely express gratitude for life."

Lucy: "Enjoying all of the firsts with my two-year-old daughter who is now old enough to experience the magic of the season. I always get the children involved in decorating the Tree (discreetly making any styling tweaks when they are tucked up in bed!).

We've booked Santa visits early December which are always a hit. Our extended family live outside of Yorkshire and as long as I can remember we’ve always travelled which of course is always fun but when you have little ones sometimes after a long year and busy festive season there really is no place like home. I’m looking forward to celebrating locally this year, enjoying the festivities in our newly renovated home and continuing to make new traditions with my children."

Can you share some festive styling tips to make a room feel extra special/ Instagrammable, even on a budget?

Amy:

  • Look for budget packs of baubles and select two colors to mix and match. This can give your Christmas tree a full and festive look without the high cost of buying baubles separately.
  • Get Crafty! Create a garland using mini baubles and any spare ribbon you have on hand. You could also thread them onto twine for a unique decoration.
  • Fairy lights add a touch of magic to your decor. Consider affordable copper string lights to enhance the atmosphere. Use them to adorn a mirror or weave them through foliage you've collected from the forest for a charming and natural touch.

Lucy:

  • If in doubt add light. Mood Lighting with lamps, fairy lights or even candlelight. Here I’ve styled these beautiful statement Carnival lights to read out the word JOY.
  • Add texture with cushions, throws, faux sheepskins.
  • Each year I like to get creative and make a DIY centre piece for the dining table using things that I already have in like a glass cake stand, faux glitter snow from the craft box, colourful bottle brush trees & various decorations.
  • Forage for foliage – i.e. dried flowers and pinecones that can then be composted once you are done.
  • You can’t go wrong with baked orange slices or a simmer pot too.

This Christmas, Wayfair invites you to embrace your style and space, inviting colour and joy into your home. It’s time to ‘Go Your Own Wayfair’ for Christmas 2023.
