The extraordinary true story of eccentric British artist Louis Wain – the man who drew cats - will be brought to life by Benedict Cumberbatch in
The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, which launches to UK cinemas on New Year’s Day.
Captivating the hearts of a nation with his cat art, Wain was very much responsible for transforming the humble feline, by his hand, from vermin and occasional mouser, to the pets we love today. In homage to his work and commitment to elevating cats’ status to society, British cat brand
Cheshire & Wain have been outfitting and delighting cats in his honour since 2013.
Author H.G. Wells said in 1927,
“He invented a cat style, a cat society, a whole cat world. English cats that do not look like Louis Wain cats are ashamed of themselves.” Now thanks to Cheshire & Wain, cats can be the proud wearers of exclusive
Louis Wain collars.
Just like the vibrant colours in Wain’s work, the new collection comes in four bright hues -
Electric Blue,
Chartreuse,
Purrsimmon or
Pastel. Priced £55 and made from the finest Italian leather with a matte rubberised surface, each collar has a contrasting soft suede lining for comfort and contrast stitching, with optional bell. Handcrafted in their East London workshop, the collars feature Cheshire & Wain’s signature breakaway safety catch and arrive beautifully presented in a special edition Louis Wain gift box.
Alongside the collars is the
Louis Wain Cat Bowl (£28) – a beautiful hand- thrown porcelain bowl, featuring one of Wain’s illustrated cat designs - perfect for feeding kitties or storing a cat lover’s trinkets. There’s also the
Louis Wain Art Prints, four paintings, which bring the joy of Wain to any wall, sideboard or mantlepiece. With imagery specially licensed to Cheshire & Wain, each limited-edition print is produced on museum-quality heavyweight Hahnemühle paper by a fine art printer in London. Available in two sizes, A4 or A3, ready to slot into a standard-sized frame, they are priced £35 for A4 and £45 for A3.
