Constant Candle Company has launched to offer fragranced candle wax refills by post to refill any candle holder - the first of its kind.

With its vegan, rapeseed wax refills – each infused with a luxurious blend of oils – the Constant Candle Company offers an alternative to ‘burn and bin’ scented candles in single- use holders. For those who want to scent their homes sustainably, the brand’s scented wax refills can be used to top up a favourite candle holder, and each wax blend is supplied in eco-friendly, recyclable packaging, in line with the company’s ethos to ‘refill, reuse and recycle’.

Constant Candle supplies everything you need to create a new candle in an existing candle holder direct to your door in the post – pre fragranced candle wax to heat and pour at home, lead-free cotton wick and a wooden wick holder together with videos and instructions.

The brand was born when founders and friends Rachael Clark and Nicky Hoad grew frustrated that replacing a scented candle meant buying a new candle with a brand-new candle holder, something that struck them as hugely wasteful. The brand has also teamed up with Somerset Ceramics Artist Bridget Hemmings to offer an exclusive range of ‘use forever’ ceramic candle holders created especially for The Constant Candle Company. These handmade and unique vessels are created using porcelain in a range of colours, all with the artist’s signature gold lustre rim and can be refilled with Constant Candle Company was refills time after time.

The products, which are all hand-made and hand poured in the UK, are vegan and cruelty free, as well as being made with premium fragrance and essential oils and a luxury rapeseed blend wax.

From the 100% recyclable packaging to the candle wicks supplied with every refill, these innovative products have been designed with zero-waste in mind. Even the brand’s distinctive circular logo references the circular economy.

Another issue the brand is tackling are the ingredients themselves. Many people are unaware that paraffin wax, which is used in many candles, is a by-product of crude oil, which “basically means you’re burning fossil fuels in your own home” according to the UK Governments Clean Air Strategy guidelines. Many candle fragrances also contain phthalates which have been linked with numerous health concerns.

The Constant Candle Company tackles these concerns with:

  • A clean burn using eco-friendly luxury rapeseed waxes and non-toxic phthalate-free fragrances that’s better for you, your home and the environment

  • Minimal packaging using FSC-certified card boxes and shredded paper, all responsibly sourced, recycled and recyclable

  • Wax made from sustainable rapeseed and soy wax blend from UK manufacturers and fully traceable back to the original manufacturers

  • The wax can be cleaned up using soap and warm water so all containers including tealights can be washed and put into recycling.

    Co-founder Rachael, who is a Photographic Director at Hearst Magazines said, “Like so many of us, I had accumulated a collection of beautiful candle pots - but without a way to refill them, they became little more than clutter. We actively want you to buy less rather than more from us so we can save you money while we also help save the planet”

    Nicky, whose background as a florist has shaped the scents of the products, added: “When we dug into the facts about the environmental and health effects of badly made candles it made us set on finding a solution. We had to rethink everything to make the first truly sustainable zero-to-waste candle – from the stickers normally used to attach the wick to the glass to the candle safety labels which are usually made from unrecyclable plastic and effect your ability to recycle the glass.”
