If last year’s Pantone Color of the Year — a bright green symbolic of change and revitalization — didn’t quite meet expectations, 2018 may be the year for you. As you’ve probably already heard, Pantone announced this year’s color on Dec. 7. The rich, comforting purple, called Ultra Violet, symbolizes both the carefulness and risk-taking which drives each of us – and society as a whole – forward.
Hopeful for the year’s focus on rights for the LGBTQ community, reminiscent of the loss of our beloved Prince and defining the boundless, futuristic feel of the year, Ultra Violet is bound to be an important color in this year’s interiors as well as fashion.
As Laurie Pressman, vice president of Pantone Color Institute, told Architectural Digest, this year’s color melds with any room’s palette — it can be an accent color or a statement. This color of the year is all about interpretation.
