When in ancient times a wood carver repeatedly chipped the surface, he was said to be ‘whittling’. It’s these unusual ‘evenly uneven’ shapes that give our new Whittle fabric collection its name.
Whittle’s irregular stripes and unstudied geometric shapes recall the subtle, intricate interplay of angles, planes and notches in hand-carved wood, appearing to ripple over the surface of the fabric as the light falls upon it. Like every Fermoie design the entire repeat is drawn by hand, with the original broken lines of pencil on paper still evident in the finished pattern.
The design makes full use of the 100% linen base cloth to add depth and texture to the 16 colourways, which include two-colour and tone-on-tone combinations.
